Roddy Engineering was engaged to design, fabricate, deliver and install an elevated access platform and walkway within the Glory Arch at the Yarrangobilly Caves Precinct in Kosciuszko National Park.
The project involved developing a safe and practical walkway through the area. The completed structure incorporated elevated steel platforms, walkways, stairs and handrailing, with the design tailored to suit the unique terrain and existing access conditions within the cave.
Following the design phase, the structural components were fabricated at Roddy Engineering’s workshop before being prepared for transport and installation on site. Careful planning was required throughout fabrication to ensure the individual sections could be transported and handled within the constraints of the remote project location.
Access to the Glory Arch presented one of the major challenges of the project. Due to the remote location and difficult terrain, conventional transport of materials directly to the work area was limited. A large portion of the materials and fabricated components were therefore transported into the site by helicopter.
Once materials reached the work area, the Roddy Engineering team completed the installation within the cave environment. The unusual location presented its own challenges, including restricted access, uneven terrain and cold working conditions, where the Roddy Engineering team endured snowfall while working.
The completed walkway provides a structured access route through the Glory Arch, incorporating elevated platforms, stairs and continuous handrailing while working within the constraints of the surrounding natural environment.
